Children's Illustration | A Rainy Day Out

A Rainy Day Out
Design Process
I was assigned to create three pages of my own children's illustration. Specifically a sequence of events without text and visually communicate to the audience.

I started with creating multiple thumbnails to see the sequence in scenes. As you can see below, I had to make numerous changed to make this scene more dynamic and create that sense of suspense.

As you can see below, you will see the thumbnails and roughs for the sequence for these three pages. There are also the same sequence but in different perspectives.
It was from there, I needed to create a colour palette that would set the mood for the rest of the sequence. As you can see below, I went for four different variations. I wanted the mood to be a welcoming and bright atmosphere. That was my challenge making this sequence and unfortunately some of the colour palette came across more gloomy. To fix this issue, I bumped up the saturation for the piece to make for a more welcoming atmosphere and mood.
This is several pieces of the process to create this children's illustration assignment. I went through different colour palettes to set the mood I wanted to set. The mood I wanted to set was a welcoming atmosphere and bright. Along with the atmosphere, I wanted to set the tone with an adventure that was going to happen.
It was from there, I decided my colour palette and created the final pieces fo this children's illustration as you can see below.
Final Pieces
This is the final sequence of these illustrations. The saturation really helped making this story more welcoming rather than gloomy. Its an enticing adventure I had fun making.
